Why red? I saw the first hummingbird this morning zip past my head. It was going straight for the Yvonne's salvia in the perennial bed.
82 and very humid. Thunderstorms in the forecast for this evening. The beans, corn, and cucumbers need a dose of fertilizer. The brugmansias will need another feeding as well.

love the reds! i saw my first hummingbird at the flowers today too! i have seen him a couple times around the feeder, but not often. today he headed straight for my red saliva that looks a little like a lion's tail but is not...i can't remember the actual name of this plant and think it's a salvia but could be WAY off..LOL
i definitely need to plant some bee balm..gorgeous!
Alas my Yvonne's is a mere 18" and that includes flower stalks. As for the hummers, mine favor my red-on-red fuchsia (of which I now have PLENTY thanks to your cloning tips!). :-D
they do add that needed splash, a jolt for the eye and a way to be a bit out of bounds!
28 inches?! Holy cow, that's some salvia! For no real reason that I know of, I tend towards pinks and purples in the summer. Maybe it's time to expand my color pallette.
What stunning reds. I do think they look better enmasse rather than the odd one dotted here and there. People seem to be frightened of using red for some reason.
Very nice, Tom! I love the bee balm too~ I have it growing new in my garden this year I just have no idea what color or variety. It will be a nice surprise!
