Sunday

It's Sunday and I have the day off. All week I had planned to work on the kitchen today, hopefully getting the beadboard installed on the wall behind the kitchen sink and around the window. But the sun is peeking out every now and again making it very difficult to think about staying inside. So much to do in the perennial bed. I'm ready to cut back lots of plants and move some things around. The ground is a bit too wet. Maybe tomorrow evening.

It doesn't help that the tea olives are in bloom filling the yard with their fragrance.

Good thing I've already started scraping paint and caulk from where the old cabinets were.

12:00pm - all the large holes are patched with drywall compound. All the caulk has been scraped free. Waiting for this coat to dry. Will being sanding this afternoon. Expecting to take days to get the walls smooth enough to paint. It will not be perfect, but it will be close.

Hi Tom,
My brother-in-law is coming to town Tuesday. He doesn't stay with us with his 2 sheep dogs, but he does come over for a meal or 2. I am trying to stay off my knee so it will heal, so yesterday, I did some cleaning, and used a crutch to take some of the weight off the knee. It slowed me down, but I managed. I really want to go out and do some deadheading today. We'll see what gives.

I hope your inside work goes smoothly so you have some time to spend outside.

Sue, it takes a while for things like that to heal. Mine still aches everyday and probably will for months. If I turn or step wrong, it's a bone deep pain that shoots up my leg. I walk and move a lot slower these days. Getting around the yard is still tough given all the slopes and level changes. I'm really starting to hate stairs.

As usual, your gardens look great. I have been reading about tea olives. Did you grow yours from seed? I don't know that I've ever smelled their fragrance, but hear it is wonderful.

I can't wait to see how your kitchen turns out. Remodeling work is hard, time consuming, sometimes mind numbing and you are so glad when the work is all done.

Do take it easy with your leg. You definitely wounded yourself and it will take time to heal.

P.S. Funny talking about fragrance, the word verification word for me right now is noses. :-)

Flowerlady, as far as I know, tea olives are sterile and do not produce seeds. I bought mine at Lowe's. It's only hardy through zone 7b, and last year they got burned by the single digit temperatures. I can't describe the fragrance, but it remind me of apricots and sunshine.

Voted for me? Where? For what? Will I need to have my hair done?

Hey Tom! In that first photo, I'm thinking how amazing your garden filled out for the season! Wish I could grow the tea olive here in NJ :(
And I voted for you too! What a shocker too for me(!) when I found out MY BLOG was nominated!
