We got it up. There were two layers of linoleum, a 1/4" layer of plywood, and about a gazillion nails. We've got half a gazillion more to pull out. Robert and I used the shovel, pick ax, and several pry bars to lift the plywood. The floor has that smell. It's just like the bathroom floor. Smells like feet and sweat.
Done and swept.
Tomorrow, lighting and electrical.

Is that hardwood floor I see? If so, are you going to use it???
It looks like a great old floor under all of the rubble! I had the "pleasure" of restoring one house many years ago in New England.....I'm happy to support your efforts from afar! If it doesn't kill you, it'll be awesome!
Jim, those are hardwood floors under the mess. I would like to use them, but there's a lot of staining from the years. I'm going to see if I can remove the felt from the asphalt tiles. That'll be a few days from now, for sure. I need electricity and plumbing first, though the finishes are always in the back of my mind.
Tim, I bought this place knowing it needed a new everything. I can't wait til it's done. Pleasure? When does that begin?
If that floor could talk. Imagine the history. Been where you are before, exciting and exhausting at the same time. It all will be worth it!!!
Oh yes, wouldn't it be wonderful if you could refinish that floor? Even painted, they look lovely. :)
oh wow! lots of work going on....are you going to refinish the floor or put down a new one?
xoxo
My old house has oak floors on it but the previous owner had done so much water damage and glued linoleum on it. I put down an underlayment and put down a new top floor. Some day I can go back to it but I would have had so many boards to replace. That is dirty, hard work.
I'm glad so many others know what it's like to do this sort of remodel. I'm really hoping I can salvage the floors. If I can't stain them to match what I do in the rest of the house, I'll use an opaque oil based stain.
