The owl is back

And he's brought a companion. Although I didn't see the second one today, I did manage to get a picture of the larger of the two. His wingspan is about 3'. He's huge.

Yes, I need a better camera.

I've never seen an owl outside of a zoo. I wonder if his/her nest(?) is in one of your trees.

We have a barn owl around here and it is huge. I am always happy to see it come around as their primary diet is rodent and hopefully not yard and garden cats. It is even a little spooky really early in the morning.

Laura, I don't know where it nests, but I know it spends a lot of time in the large oaks out back in early spring and late fall. I've only seen the other one a couple times. I wonder if she is nesting with eggs?

Heather, I have wondered if that's what happened to "white cat", my gardening companion that disappeared a couple months ago. She wasn't the type that would have allowed someone to take her in. I tried when it was really cold and she would have none of that.

They are spooky when they turn and stare at you with those big glassy eyes.

LOL! Sorry DP. That's just too funny. I hope it didn't hurt you too bad. Are they aggressive? Should I be concerned?

My cat is too fat for it to pick up so I'm not worried about her. Plus she's so afraid of her own shadow, I doubt she'd be outside long enough to be spotted.

Tom I don't think they are aggressive. You can read the story in its entirety under Story Telling Tuesday link, it is the "Something Hit Me" story. It is pretty entertaining. I have had many interactions with them in the woods....but none like that one that flew into my head. He knocked me out COLD!!!!!!!

I'm so glad I get to see things like this in my own yard. As long as the snakes stay away, I'll be happy.
