In spite of the heat.

Some things are blooming and doing it very well.

The canna I dug from the yard and planted in the perennial bed last year has finally bloomed. I like it.

Fall scattered Verbena on a stick is blooming sparsely. It reseeds. Right?

Red four o'clocks and Coreopsis "Full Moon" with Miscanthus "Cosmopolitan".

Knockouts with Morning Glory.

Full Moon, E. "Magnus", Blackberry Lily, R. triloba, and perilla combine well together.

Melampodium edges the other side of the same space.

The monstrous tithonia is a favorite of butterflies.

It's 81 degrees and overcast. Another 70% chance of no rain in the forecast today and tonight.

I can hardly complain about summer heat here in general, but this past week has been brutal for us! Plants that normally would not bat an eyelash about such temps are wilting, I think it's just that they aren't accustomed to the heat here :-(
Your garden is looking good though! I'm curious, what type of morning glory is that? I've never seen one with leaves that aren't strictly heart-shaped.

Scott, the morning glory was sold as "Scarlett O'Hara". It was not. The flowers last year were the same color, but I do remember heart shaped leaves. I let it self sow and pulled about 4 dozen seedlings leaving just a couple. I should have had some light blue morning glories in there too, but I may have pulled them.

That is one very interesting canna. I've never seen one with flowers shaped like that. Quite stunning.
