My 'To Do' list is getting shorter.

I got a call this morning from the local big box home improvement store. I had my final interview with the store manager. I worked there last spring and summer. In September, I left for a several reasons. I can now say that on Saturday, I will officially be employed. Best of all, I'll be working in the Outside Lawn and Garden area where I worked 3 months last year.

There is potential to turn this into a full time job as their "Live Plant Specialist" turned in her notice this morning, according to my inside sources. Two people have already recommended me to the store manager, including the department manager, for the position. While it would be nice to have a better paying job with benefits, I'm just happy to have the job I've been given and will hope for the best. You can't be disappointed being paid to work outside in the spring with plants.

I wish I looked better in a red smock. It clashes with my sunburn.

Congrats! How cool to work in the lawn/garden dept. Just think of all the plants you will get at a discount, think of the 'roses' you can add to your gardens. Hope you get the position of 'live plant specialist' too.

Good for you! That is great! I would love to have a job working at a nursery or somewhere like that.

Thanks. In this area, any job is a welcomed change to doing nothing.

Wow. Glad for you, Tom. A full time job that will actually PAY you so you can take home lots of plants. LOL What fun that will be!

Yeah, that's great. Must be a huge relief, I hope you get the specialist job. That would be even better!
By the way I'm so glad you told me not to dump my winter sown larkspur. In my post today I have the seedlings that finally emerged.

Like your new quote. I always thought it would be fun to work in one of the many greenhouses around my town. Maybe when I retire from my library work.

Well, being a plant person, the big box is lucky to have you. And maybe this job will eventually have bennies? Anyway, congrats, Tom

Thanks again everyone. I never expected to be excited to be working in retail. But a job in this economy is a good thing. I'm sure they'll keep me on after spring if I continue to work the way I did last year. They were disappointed to see me leave in September. Besides, it's outside, it's spring. It's working with plants and other gardeners. What's not to like?
