Fog

This morning, the fog is so thick it reminds me of Stephen King's story, 'The Mist'. Everything has a weird glow to it. It rained most of the night. More rain today in the forecast with highs in the 50s again.

9:43am - light rain, 43 degrees.

I checked the hoophouse. The tomatoes and all the indoor seedlings seem to be doing fine. It's been pretty cool here the past few days but nothing is suffering. No sun to warm it up either. But I do have some interesting developments.

Zinnias have sprouted in several of the containers. These were sown this past weekend. That was quick given the 40 and 50 degree weather we've had. These plants will be my summer color since most of the wintersown containers are perennials and won't bloom this year.

My sad little grape hyacinths are trying to bloom. These were planted in the fall.

The Thundercloud plum is sporting new blooms too. No frost in the 10 day forecast. Today should be our coldest day for the next 10.

I'm happy to have the rain. We've been in a drought for the past two summers. We're about an inch below normal as of last week, so the next 4 days should get us close to normal. I just hope it continues this summer when things heat up. I miss those 2pm rainstorms that come through, drop 1/2" of rain in less than an hour, and give us sunshine in the evening for the plants to dry off.

My sister has that plum tree. It looks beautiful in bloom. I think hers produces plums every other year for some reason. It's cold here and frosty!

I'm still not sure if it will produce fruit or not. I have read various source that contradict each other. The tag on it when I bought it said to expect 1" dark red fruit. So I am hopeful.

The warm weather is coming. Hopefully sooner rather than later. I'm ready to eat tomatoes.

Thundercloud Plum...what a wonderful name! I wonder how it came to have that name.

I'm glad to see spring coming to you with rain.

By the way, thank you for the embedded video help. It worked perfectly!

Thundercloud plum...love it! Have you sown any echinacea seed? If so have they come up and how long did it take them? I planted mine at the same time I sowed all the others. Every other seed has sprouted with the exception of the 2 echinacea. I am beginning to worry. These were the seeds I saved myself from mine. I know several other gardeners that do this with much success. I did sow my own zinnia and black eyed susans I collected from my plants and they have come up...so I am not sure what the deal is.

I sowed echinacea on Dec 21. They sprouted in early February, but only a couple. I know there are a lot more seeds left to sprout, so give them some time. If you're worried, go grab another pack from the store and toss them in there too. You'll probably have more than you ever need.
