Day 31.

93 degrees. No rain.

This has been the longest summer I can remember. It started in early April when the mercury rose to 94 degrees the first week. It's been miserable for those of us that work outside. I'm surprised that anything is still alive in the garden. Somehow, Salvia elegans is about to bloom. The plants are smaller this year. They wilt every afternoon. The hummingbirds will need to hover closer to the ground.

Starting Sunday, the forecast calls for cooler weather and more importantly, rain. I've got my toes crossed.

Tom ~ I think you've had a hotter summer with real temps, our temps have been over 100, but that's with the high humidity that we've had also.

I hope you get some relief from the heat and get some rain soon also.

Yes, yes...! Just this morning I saw signs of flower scapes forming on my elegans (seeds you sent me). And they are finally getting some height - over 3 feet now. It'll be touch'n'go to see if they flower before frost.... I love the pineapple scent when I brush past them.

I hope you get a good soaker. It's still bone dry here....

I've just about lost one patch of pineapple sage. Good thing I have it in a few spots. Plenty of other hummer-lovin' plants doing much better ... thank goodness!
