Thorns

I have finally identified a nasty looking plant growing in the woods out back of the house. It's Poncirus trifoliata, or Hardy Orange. My research tells me there should be blooms in the spring with fruit later in the year. The fruit is inedible. I've put it on my list of things to watch for as the season changes.

It's 27 degrees and sunny. A high of 42 is expected.

My friend Trevor created it yesterday from a bunch of pictures I took last year. Mine was a lot simpler. He's better with Photoshop than I am. When he offered, I jumped at the idea. I'm sure he appreciates the compliments.

'tis a very pretty header :)
Hardy orange does indeed get some beautiful, though as you already noted, very bitter, fruit on it. It's such a cool looking plant I think, but boy you do have to watch those nasty thorns doncha??!!

I've never seen it fruit. I don't remember it blooming last year either. Of course, it was still buried behind 15' tall boxwoods at the time. Those are gone now. Hopefully it's getting more sunlight. I want to try making some cuttings this summer.
