If you've ever smelled them, I can't really add anything here besides photos. If you haven't, you should make it a point to find a clump somewhere.
Squash seedlings. Beans are just starting to crack the soil. No cucumbers yet.
It's 73 degrees and cloudy. Off tomorrow and Wednesday.

Your peonies are gorgeous. I love the color. I would love to see them and take in their scent in real life.

Thanks FlowerLady. I'm really starting to enjoy the yard this year. I've got a little work to do tomorrow with planting some of the Blackberry lilies I've started from the seed I collected and the ones you and others sent me. I can't wait to see them bloom in a few years.

I agree with you; you have to smell them!
Would you believe out of the several that I have only two have fragrance. Some were just labeled by color. I used to assume all peonies were fragrant; it ain't so!

It's been more than fifty years since Mama used to have vases of peonies overnight on the dining room table waiting to go to the cemetery on the first Saturday in May. We cleaned lots where my ancestors are buried and left a bouquet on each.
I still remember how fragrant they were in the cool dining room.
What do they smell like? Perfume? Lilacs?
Tom, Peonies are one of my favorite flowers too. Do you know the variety of those beauties? I used to have a Sarah Bernhardt peony bush that my dear Mother-in-law gave me years ago, but it was Feb. when we moved and the ground was frozen so I had to leave it behind. I have always wanted a deep burgundy one..There is one here but it is white with a tinge of pink on edge of petals..we don't like it. The original owners planted it I understand.I think we will be digging it up this Fall.
