Dry.

It's been almost a week since we've had any rain. For the month of July, we received about 2" total. June was less than that. May was one of the hottest on record for the state. The ground is dry almost a foot down. I was considering moving a couple plants yesterday. I decided to stay inside.

Brugmansias that were 6' tall and wide last year are barely knee high. No blooms this year.

Even Rudbeckia fulgida is having a hard time. I watered this one yesterday with a good, deep soaking. Doesn't seem to matter.

At least most of the coneflowers, coreopsis, and Joe Pye Weed are doing well. I want more of these.

It's 91 degrees. 10% chance of rain means nothing. Later in the week, we've got some 40% days. The temperatures look like they'll remain in the upper 80s or higher the rest of the month.

It's definitely been a rough year for the garden. I have accepted the fact that I will be replacing lots of plants this fall and next spring.

I know what you mean. We got something like 1.3" in July for Central Alabama. It hit 101 today. It is 9:30 pm and still 90 degrees out. I water all the time. The only good news is that I am moving forward with drip irrigation. Can't waste the water.

We are keeping our fingers crossed that the tropical system in the Gulf will come our way Friday or Saturday.

Will you get any of this tropical system that's in the Gulf(and deluging us)?

We are getting all of your rain. We have towns swamped and stranded and it keeps on raining. My coneflowers are dead from too much water and the ground is never dry. August for us is always dry for weeks on end.

Ack...how miserable...it really is a Darwinian time...really shows which plants can tough it out!

Tom, the wilted perilla looks like it came from my yard.

We are very hot and dry too. Heat index today is 110°.

I think next week is supposed to be in the upper 80's which will seem like a real cool down.
