The Heat of August

It's here. Today is our coolest day out of the next week. At 91, standing in the sun was miserable. I sweated more today than I did working in my own yard. It's the concrete.

After work, I watered a few things I planted or moved yesterday. The potted cuttings are holding up well. The ziplock bags have lots of humidity. The sedums don't look like they've been planted at all. No rain in the forecast until Wednesday, my day off. Amazing how that happens. It's currently 89 and sunny. 63% humidity.

New stuff

Cleome. The seeds were collected from pink and white Sparkler series.

A white salvia? I have three of these plants. Cannot remember planting them. That's not unusual.

Coreopsis "Full Moon" is filling in nicely around the garden.

My first pumpkin bloom. It's a male. No female blossoms in sight.

Watermelon

Brugmansia. The one and only plant with blooms or buds.

Recently sown cucumbers, squash, and nasturtiums are up. Beans too.

The potager is a mess. No rain is slowing everything.

Recently potted cuttings. Hydrangeas, figs, forsythia.

A familiar sight, the water sprinkler in the perennial bed. I bought a manual timer yesterday. I can set it to water for 1 minute or 120 and anywhere in between.

Two of my favorites

Stargazer Lily.

Luna Red.

10:23am - For the third time this year, I've had to water the potager. Between yesterday afternoon and this morning, everything has gotten a good drink of water. PM thunderstorms are in the forecast for Friday and Monday. I hope they're right. It's very dry here with no rain since June 14. This winter, I need to install a micro-irrigation system around the yard. I'm wasting a lot of water using the hose and sprinklers.
