Good Morning.

The birds were active this morning. I thought I would share.

That buzzing at 0:36 is a mosquito. I've got the bites to prove it.
It was 72 degrees and sunny when I made the video. Hot today. Hot tomorrow. Hot all summer.

No alarm clock needed.

It started this morning about 6:30am. The first series of hoots sounded far off in the distance. I was barely awake. By the time I had made my coffee, they were much louder. The owls were somewhere in the backyard. The other birds were sounding the alarm. I grabbed the camera and headed outside. The owls were gone. The birds were not.

It's 43 degrees. I will mow the grass today. I will do some more weeding and edging. I might even scrape some paint, but I wouldn't count on it. The forecast is for the mid 70s again.

I couldn't wait.

It's dark now. The sunset was gorgeous, as usual. I said I would post these tomorrow, but I took the photos today. And I do have a full list of things I'd like to get done in the morning, before lunch.

The backyard felt very warm today, even at 45 degrees. The robins were all over, scratching, digging, and aerating the soil.

Some of their work.

In the perennial bed, daffodils and hyacinths are marching on.

It was very cold the past two nights, but the camellia didn't care.

And check out who survived the freezes.

Wallflowers seem to be immune to cold. Ox eye daisy has germinated. And the large, round seeds appear to be a type of hibiscus, but I can't say for sure since I didn't read the tag in the container. One day this week, I want to get out and sort the sprouts from the non sprouts. It'll make it easier to find them when it's time to plant out. I should have alphabetized them.

For the Birds

At 5am this morning, it sounded like a jungle outside my bedroom window. The few evergreens in the backyard do nothing to muffle the sounds of nature that are growing louder every day. With the weather cooperating so nicely, I've left a few windows open the past few nights. I don't know what all the fuss was about, but someone wasn't happy.

I need a resource. I know some of my regular visitors are bird enthusiasts. I want to know what I'm hearing. Anyone know of a good site I can visit to learn the bird calls native to my area? I'd appreciate any pointers.

It's 52 and sunny. Another work day. I need to bring my tender plants back inside tonight. The forecast calls for 49 tonight, but I have a feeling it may dip a little lower. I wouldn't want to lose these plants I've been babying all winter and growing from seed for the past month. Still, spring is just around the corner. The birds know it too.

Wordless Wednesday Morning

Ok, so it's not really a wordless Wednesday for me. But for an hour this morning, it was. I had my coffee outside. I listened to the birds and the sounds of the traffic on the highway a couple miles away. I actually sat and enjoyed the moment rather than thinking about all the things going on in life, or planning my next move in the garden, or worrying about obligations. Sometimes, doing nothing can be far more rewarding.

It's 52 degrees and partly sunny. There's a chill in the air. Thunderstorms expected this evening.
